Independence & #BookstagramHay 2018

THANK YOU!

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us for ten fabulous days. Huge thanks also to the small army of volunteers who gave up their time to make it happen. We’ll be back next year! In the meantime, here’s a video snapshot of one of the events…

  • With huge apologies, the lino woodcut events on 4th April have both had to be cancelled. We have a replacement event for the 2-3pm children’s slot which we think will be lovely – same time, same place, free entry – here are the details:
    Making little books.
Francesca Kay shows how to make simple handmade books, and embellish and illustrate them with collage, drawing, colour, stamping and perhaps even some letterpress printing. All materials provided, but bring favourite coloured pens and pencils if you wish.
Francesca is a poet, printer, and maker of things.

  • Broad Street Books are taking part in the Bookshop Treasure Hunt, and will also honour the 10% discount for Bookstagram wristband holders! Rose’s Books (14 Broad Street) have also very kindly joined the wristband discount offer. Show your wristband t get 10% off in any participating shop!

Read about last year’s event…

On 1st April, 1977, Richard Booth proclaimed himself to be King of the Independent Kingdom of Hay. That spirit of independence has attracted outsiders, mavericks, free spirits and trendsetters ever since. In 2017 we celebrated 40 years of independence in Hay.  If you couldn’t join us in April 2017 we ran a series of family-friendly events. View the 2017 schedule here.

The plan is formulating for an annual celebration from now onwards and 2018 is very exciting and even bigger again! If you’d like more info and would like to be involved in the annual celebrations please contact us and join our Independence working group.
